eHighlighter App Reviews

Not working

Keep getting error "not connecting to server".

Good,

Sometimes it takes a couple of tries to get the text exactly right but the time it saves more than makes up for the occasional inconvenience. Highly recommended to students for quick notes from a textbook or for research in the library. I would like to see this program grow and be capable of OCR directly from an attached PDF without using the camera to capture tex.

Okay, but not great

It doesnt take the clearest pictures. From the pictures it guesses words and often gets words wrong. Constantly spelled learner as leamer. Sometimes it even puts the whole page in jibberish with letters that dont spell words. It does make it easier than typing out all the notes, even with the mistakes, but it definitely isnt perfect.

Extremely Helpful!

I havent fully switched to ebooks personally so this app is great! So much easier to remember and find quotes from stuff Ive read. Also would have been great when I was getting my undergrad. So anyone that has to write research papers this app is worth the price.

Highly Useful

I still love reading actual books but I miss the convenience of highlighting in eBooks - enter this fantastic app! Ive used it for awhile but the recent update brought huge improvements. The text recognition seems 99% accurate now, and when something does render incorrectly (like a footnote) I can easily edit it. I also really like the structure of the app - being able to save collections of highlights by book and page number, then export to Evernote when Im done. Which, by the way, is how I found this app - the Evernote Trunk. They work great together. Anyway, thanks a bunch!

Nice idea, poor implementation

Image processing is poor, words unrecognizeable. Locks up at times I am running IOS 7.

The analog reading tool for the Techy!

Just applied this to a book I read, an actual page turning book. I dont regularly do that, but live that with eHighlighter I can now digitize my take aways in a few clicks. Take a picture, choose start and end points and boom digitized. To top it off I can push out to Evernote....good to tool!

Does exactly what it claims.

eHighlighting of OCR scans of book pages, with solid Evernote integration. Solid app.

Not good

Lots of annoying things about this app. You can only highlight one passage per page (so much for only what you need), the beginning and end of passage markers are impossible to use, and the OCR is mediocre at best. The auto citation is nice, but thats pretty much it.

A really helpful tool!

I love this app! It is ridiculously helpful with my studying! A few areas of improvement: - I shouldnt have to retake my picture from the beginning if theres an error while uploading to process. - I would prefer that when I upload to Evernote, that the note in Evernote is updated (or replaced), rather than giving me multiple copies of the same note since I sync to Evernote throughout the book (so I have access to the notes and highlights there as well while Im still reading through the book). Thanks for a great app by and large - one that I am quite thankful for!

Excellent tool for researchers

App does a fantastic job at transcribing and attributing printed text. The accuracy is quite good, and the interface is very user-friendly. Excellent.

Best Customer Service Ive ever received

The developers are committed to helping customers and have on more than one occasion been available to help me fix an issue in the weekend!! Even if it ultimately wasnt a defect of the APP. Ive been using it to organize my notes to write my Thesis and I couldnt be happier with this tool. Let me scream it from the rooftops of Manhattan -- BUY this APP!! Its worth every penny; it works; and a+++ customer service to make sure you are always up and running!! Just awesome.

Lifesaver for students...

A great tool for grad student who checks out a lot of library books that need highlighting. Makes it easy to save notes for paper writing. Only feedback: there is no ability to put a page number from preface where they are Roman numerals.

Hardly any hiccups!

This is a really great app! Im currently in grad school so this app is definitely helpful to me. It not only lets me get transcripts of excerpts (via my camera) quickly but it also gives me the citation in the format I need (APA)! I want to give it 5 stars but occasionally the transcription process fails and instead of saving the photo I already took and letting me try again, I have to take a new picture. That means that I cant take a bunch of photos quickly and transcribe them later. I have to transcribe each photo individually and that takes up more time. Not so convenient there. Other than that, Im a big fan!

Promises Not Fulfilled

This app just does not deliver. I have to spend 5 minutes editing every highlight I make so my notes are correct. Trips up on punctuation and even words with ch in them. Heaven forbid a sentence has a semicolon. Wasted $1.99 on this one.

Wish I found this sooner!!

As a PhD student, I am reading and transcribing quotes for lots of books. This app is amazing! Ive found better ways to use it- such as in daylight vs artificial light. :)

This is a HUGE waste of time!

This app is recommended on Evernote so i purchased it. But it is a hindrance to productivity! There are so many problems i will only pick one that is huge. You have to photograph the entire page in portrait. That means the type is so small you cant read it. After umpteen tries at making a highlight - all of which force you to retake the photo- you have one highlight. That takes a half hour. This is useless and no way it can ever be part of a real research workflow. Save your money.

Essential App

If anyone reads books anymore, they need this app to keep track of all they learn. I especially love the Evernote integration.

Needs a sign up for

I hate an app which requires signing up, an e-mail and a password

Wish it would transcribe handwritten text

Im an author and many of my streams of consciousness are hand written in journals. If there were a way this app could transcribe handwritten text from journals..that would not only be magical, it would save me hundreds of hours of manual transcribing. There has to be a way! Otherwise great for documenting sources of relevant material.
